Band Line Up 2023
Extort is a 5-piece metal band from Edinburgh, Scotland. Since their official establishment in 2019, they played multiple shows across the country after their live debut in June 2022. In particular, they appeared in all-day festivals supporting acts such as Saor, Dog Tired and Catalysis. In November, members from Extort organised and played a charity festival “Slava Ukraini: Scottish Metallers Fundraiser for Ukraine” across 2 venues. The festival booked international headliners such as Yoth Iria and Ruadh. In December, Extort recorded their debut EP with Ramage Productions – of which the first single “Skyscrapers” was released in February 2023. The "Reset” EP was then released on the 1st of May, just before the band won the finals of Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses Scotland. The EP already received very positive reviews from local and international reviewers.
The band strives to create an innovative sound drawing from each member’s sonic taste, creating something fresh and not bound by any specific genre – however, the overall sound takes inspiration from Death, Groove, and Black metal. The apocalyptic and dystopian meaning behind the lyrics expresses the band’s feelings for the current problems facing society whilst looking for escape and wisdom in Folklore.
With a promising line-up of UK shows to come throughout 2023 (including Bloodstock Open Air Festival, Darkness over cumbria and Sonic Dissonance Festival), the band is already working on the next release. Keep your eyes peeled for what Extort is up to next!
Ever since we went to Bloodstock in 2022, we knew we had to come back but this time we dreamed to be a part of the festival. Words cannot describe what we are feeling now after winning the Scottish metal to the masses final, we are still “buzzing” and euphoric. We would like to thank all of the people that have supported us since our first gig and all the way through the heats and the final, we cannot thank you all enough. We cannot wait to play on the New Blood stage, and we are so hyped for this opportunity!
