SOOTH SAYER
During the darker, twilight months of the year 2013, The Soothsayer was first invoked. Rising from the ashes of Doom-Noise merchants Íweriú - Hughes, Doyle and Fahey sought to continue within a bleak nightmare, fuelled by a heavy frustration and a disdain for the injustices that are prevalent on the planet. Recruiting O’Grady and Quinn to join them, The Soothsayer was given life.
As the year 2014 began, The Soothsayer made its first live appearance. Much of that year was spent honing their songs and sound, albeit with sporadic live performances, inflicting a Blackened, Doom-laden atmosphere upon all in their path.
Into the year 2015, Soothsayer entered a remote studio in rural Kerry to record their first demo. “The Soothsayer” was self-released later that year to critical acclaim.
Following on from the success of their first EP, Soothsayer immediately began work on their second EP, “At This Great Depth”. They decided to approach this recording more organically, and captured both tracks live, rounding the release off with only minimal overdubs. “At This Great Depth” immediately caught the attention of underground metal label “Transcending Obscurity Records” who released the EP at the tail end of 2016.
The EP was universally lauded, and received attention from such publications as Vice, No Clean Singing, Metal Hammer, Metal Sucks and Metal Injection, to name a few. After intensive gigging to promote their music in 2017, which saw The Soothsayer supporting the likes of Zatokrev, Alcest and Solstafir, the band saw two of its number replaced. Rosa was drafted in in place of Quinn, while Breen replaced Fahey on drums. The new lineup began composing new material, releasing a 7” vinyl split entitled “Cephalopod” with fellow Corkonians Partholón.
The year 2018 saw The Soothsayer’s first concerts overseas, including two dates in Switzerland with Wolf Council and Ashtar, as well as a notable appearance at that year’s Gothoom Open air festival in Slovakia, alongside Vader, Exodus, Septic Flesh and many others.
The year 2019 was significant for the band as the debut album, “Echoes Of The Earth” was recorded in the spring, retaining the live formula of “At This Great Depth”. Shortly after the album’s recording, The Soothsayer travelled to Malta to perform with the local Victims of Creation, alongside fellow Irishmen Mourning Beloveth. This gig was captured live and released the following year as the “Live in Malta MMXIX” album, through Cursed Monk Records.
“Echoes Of The Earth” was released in April 2021 through Transcending Obscurity Records. The album was released to great acclaim, making appearances in numerous “best of” lists and scoring many favourable reviews. The album also caught the attention of Vendetta Records, who released “Echoes Of The Earth” on vinyl mid 2022.
Now the band pushes forward, expanding their sound and vision, continuing their journey through a surreal and ever-morphing mindscape.
