Formed in june 2009 by vocalist 'Hardcore' Dave Lyness, Paul Anthony and Dave Byers who wanted to bring a fresh outlook to the metal and hardcore scene in ireland they felt was lacking - a sense of community, family, pride and integrity that metal wasn't offering and punk was pushing underground. Taking to the studio in 2010 they released the self titled EP By Any Means. A statement of intent mixing hardcore, metal and even stoner influences, it was very well received by the whole extreme music community both in Ireland and UK. This year also saw them joined by Chris McDowell on bass, a jazz and blues bassist at heart he brought a melodic beating heart to the aggressive overture of the guitars and vocal.
2011 saw them refining their stage show, playing incessantly around Ireland to hone their songs and perfect the heavy sound that has become their trademark. They entered Einstein studios in Antrim in August with legendary engineer Frankie McClay and have produced the album 'Built On Respect'. A call to arms to all those who believe that music should be heavy, riff laden, aggressive and full of honesty and integrity it has received rave reviews from all who have heard it so far. The live show continues to recruit more and more people into the BAM ethic and ethos, culminating in a mass shared-stage sing along in which everyone is invited to 'make this show yours - because that's what it is'.
2012 Promises big things with plans to tour Ireland, UK and Europe already being put into place, plus a hopeful re-entry into the studio to put out a mini album featuring new material and some covers showing where the BAM heart was formed.
2013 has seen the departure of vocalist and co-founder Dave Lyness and the introduction of Chris Curlett on vocals. Bringing unbounded enthusiasm and energy this change will surely set By Any Means even further apart from the pack in their live show. Plans for UK and European shows and a long awaited re-entry to the studio to record for 2 EP's to be released later this year and early 2014.
2014 has seen departure of original member Dave Byers and the arrival of Gavin Brown, the imminent release of a new EP and touring support slots with bands such as Negative Approach, Agnostic Front and Madball to name just a few.
With a mixture of songs so fast they will literally tear your head off to slow, almost sludge riffs that you are compelled to nod your head to, bringing to mind legendary bands such as Madball, Terror, SOIA, First Blood, Agnostic Front, Raging Speedhorn and so many others there is literally everything for everyone here. Carrying the torch for Irish hardcore, they leave destruction in their wake and an undeniable knowledge that whoever sees them have truly witnessed what hardcore is about.
